Five-eighth James Maloney was the star turn as the Warriors scored their third consecutive win away from home, downing Newcastle 25-16 in their NRL match at Ausgrid stadium.

The Warriors, who have typically struggled out of New Zealand, came home with a wet sail to make it six victories from their last seven starts following a sluggish beginning to the season.

Without injured five-eighth Kurt Gidley the Knights still had plenty of opportunities to take the two points and led by 16-12 with seven minutes remaining.

But determined defence in the second half by the Warriors, who repelled the Knights for 22 tackles at one stage, ensured the visitors stayed in the the contest.

Maloney then broke the back of the home side when he raced away to score under the posts before Lance Hohaia bagged another try two minutes later to put the result beyond doubt.

Warriors pivot Maloney, then capped a strong match with a field goal.

Fijian international Wes Naiqama had opened the Knights' ledger with a fourth minute self converted try before Auckland's giant wingman Manu Vatuvei out-leapt opponent Akuila Uate to have scores at 6-all at the 20th minute mark.

Jarrod Mullen and Hohaia exchanged tries before the Knights took a 16-12 halftime lead thanks to a four-pointer on the siren to Shannon McDonnell.
